Who Can Order Nebraska Death Records
In NE, death records can only be ordered by the deceased’s spouse, parent, or child. Records which are over 50 years old may be released to anyone who requests them for genealogical purposes.

For a request for a death record to be processed, the following information must be provided:

ID Required to Order Nebraska Death Records

Fee for Ordering Nebraska Death Records
The fee to order a Certified Nebraska death record is $11.00. Additional copies of the same record cost $11.00 each. Certified copies of death records are used to claim the proceeds of an insurance policy, to obtain death benefits, or to notify Social Security about the death.

A copy of your photo ID and a check or money order payable to, “Vital Records Office” should be included with your request. A stamped, self-addressed envelope should be included with the order.
Order Nebraska Death Records by Phone
Nebraska death records can be ordered by phone and paid for with a credit card. The state does not accept phone orders directly, but has arranged for an independent payment processing company to handle them. Once payment has been made with a major credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa), the information is forwarded to the Office of Vital Records for processing.
