Idaho Death Records

Idaho death records are maintained by the state’s Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. Records are available from July 1911 to the present. Some death records are maintained by the county in which the event occurred, but a person who wishes to place an order would need to contact the appropriate County office for more information and to request a record search. Who Can Order Idaho Death Records

Idaho death records are considered confidential for 50 years following the date of death. After that point, they become public record. In the meantime, only the following individuals can order a copy of a death record:

• – Deceased’s parents
• – Children of the deceased
• – Brother/sister of the deceased
• – Deceased’s grandparent or grandchild

 

A legal representative things for one of the people listed above may also order a death record. Step relatives are not considered immediate family members in the state of Idaho, and the cannot order a copy of a death record. Submitting a false application for certified copy of a vital record is a criminal offense which is punishable by up to five years imprisonment, a fine of $5,000, or both.

RUSH orders are available for a one-time fee of $5.00 per order by writing, “RUSH” on the outside of the envelope. The record will be forwarded by regular mail at no extra charge. Express mail is available if the package includes a prepaid express mail envelope indicating your name and address.

Online and fax orders are processed through an independent company. Additional fees are charged for using the service. Express service is available for online and fax orders, and they are processed within a few working days. Standard orders are processed and mailed out within five-seven working days after the information has been received and verified.
